Though the health food market is saturated with juices, coconut water and other beverages that are intended to pack more nutrition into your diet with just one sip, the jury is still out on just how beneficial some of these fads are. However, researchers have recently revealed that drinking a steaming cup of hot cocoa may actually be your best bet for promoting aging longevity.

According to a press release from the American Academy of Neurology, scientists from Harvard Medical School have discovered that senior citizens who drink two cups of hot chocolate a day may experience better brain function. The researchers recruited 60 people with an average age of 73, 18 of whom were diagnosed with impaired blood flow. These circulation problems prevented blood from reaching certain parts of the brain, thereby putting individuals at a greater risk for dementia and other types of cognitive decline.

Over the course of the 30-day study, the scientists observed that participants with blood flow issues made marked improvements on thinking and memory tests, leading researchers to conclude that there was a connection between cocoa, circulation and cognitive ability.

Curiously, this isn't the first time we've reported on the anti-aging benefits of cocoa this summer. Back in June, we covered a study indicating that hot chocolate could reduce the internal inflammation that occurs after eating fatty foods.
