Struggling to shed those pounds? This method may prove most effective

Avoiding temptation may help you shed pounds. In extreme cases, medical weight loss in Houston may be necessary.

Many men and women in Houston are trying to lose weight, not just for aesthetic reasons, but because of the health concerns that obesity can pose. Carrying too many excess pounds – particularly if it's as a result of a sodium- and fat-laden diet, can dramatically increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease and other dangerous afflictions that directly threaten aging longevity.

Obesity isn't just an issue in Texas, or even the United States. All around the world, health professionals and government officials are striving to institute awareness programs and policies that can curb this trend. Recently, researchers from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and the University of Dusseldorf in Germany conducted a study self control that may influence global weight loss efforts.

According to a U.K. press release, "the researchers compared the effectiveness of willpower versus voluntarily restricting access to temptations, called 'precommitment'."

The scientists recruited male participants who were told they could access a "small reward" immediately, or a "large reward" after an extended period of time. Through this method, the researchers found that individuals who were given the opportunity to precommit to the larger reward were more likely to do so, in contrast to males who had to actively resist the small reward as they waited for the greater payoff.

Based on these findings, the scientists concluded that relying on willpower may not be the most effective route when it comes to losing weight. Instead, interested parties should strive to avoid temptation altogether, the press release states.

However, if you've done everything you can to lose those extra pounds but have yet to enjoy success, you may want to consider a more substantial intervention. At Longevity Centres of America, we offer medical weight loss in Houston, along with other anti-aging treatments.
