ScienceDaily states that study participants were first deprived of adequate slumber, then went shopping in a mock grocery store. The scientists analyzed the purchases each individual made and found that people who didn't get enough rest were prone to buy more in the simulation.

"Our finding provides a strong rationale for suggesting that patients with concerns regarding caloric intake and weight gain maintain a healthy, normal sleep schedule," lead author Colin Chapman, MSc, said of the results
