A group of 52 adult men whose ages ranged from 18 to 45 years were recruited for the University of Colorado study. Some participants took supplements before exercising, while others received the nutrients after their session. Comparatively, the males who were given the supplements before hitting the gym were better able to maintain their calcium levels throughout and after they underwent substantial physical exertion.

"These findings are relevant to individuals who engage in vigorous exercise and may lose a substantial amount of calcium through sweating," noted lead author Vanessa Sherk, PhD, in the press release.
