If you are a woman with concerns about your sex drive, you're hardly alone. Many females experience a noticeable decline in their libido as they age – particularly after menopause. But, according to the Sexuality, Reproduction & Menopause – a clinical journal published by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, a great number of females who suffer from some form of sexual disorder don't obtain relief – largely because sexual health is such a taboo subject.
"Both patients and health providers may be reluctant to initiate a sexual health dialogue," the source states. However, in 1999 a survey published by the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed that 43 percent of adult women between 18 and 59 years old said they had experienced sexual issues within the last year. A 2008 follow-up project entitled Prevalence of Sexual Problems Associated with Distress (PRESIDE) delved further into the issue, and demonstrated that middle-aged women in particular reported greater incidences of a condition known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder, or HSDD.
If you feel that you no longer have any interest in sex – either in theory or in practice – you may have developed this disorder, as it is characterized by the "persistent or recurrent deficiency or absence of sexual thoughts, fantasies, and/or desire for, or receptivity to, sexual activity," the journal notes.
At Longevity Centres of America, we understand the impact this deficiency can have on your interpersonal relationships and your quality of life as a whole. As a part of our commitment to aging longevity, we've helped countless women overcome this issue at our Denver and Houston clinics through hormone pellet therapy – a procedure that restores your estrogen levels to a more youthful state.
If you answer YES to all of the following questions, consult one of our anti-aging doctors about HSDD:
- In the past, was your level of sexual desire/interest good and satisfying to you?
- Has there been a decrease in your level of sexual desire/interest?
- Are you bothered by your decreased level of sexual desire/interest?
- Would you like your level of sexual desire/interest to increase?
